Mailing List File
For mailing list based campaigns such as direct mail, the campaign creation process will require a mailing list file. The file must be saved as a .csv or .txt and be a comma delimited file. If you have your data stored in Excel, it is very easy to create a .csv from the Excel spreadsheet. Simply choose File->Save As and when prompted, select a name and location for the file and in the ‘Save as type’ area, choose ‘CSV’ (Comma delimited). Click the Save button and you are done.
The mailing list file should contain all mailing data you wish to use in the campaign. A standard mailing list file will have the following:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Address
- Address 2
- City
- State
- Zip
Your mailing list file can contain any number of fields in any order you wish. The mapping process in the campaign creation wizard will allow you to map your fields to our known fields.
Your mailing list file can also contain variable data you wish to show somewhere on the landing page. In the example above, we have favorite color as a variable field separate for each record. This color could be used in our landing page to show a certain color car, for example, that we know the user would like.
Once you have completed your campaign creation, a new mailing list file will be available for download. It will be the same file you uploaded with a new column at the end for pURL. This new data file is what your print provider will use to generate your variable data mailing.
